well i gave my brother an MMATS 12 proseries a while back dvc4ohm 250rms...this thing pounds in the bandpass enclosure the previous owner built for it (it came in my old car when i bought it) but were gunna build a ported box for a suv hes gunna get, but i need to know a good amp to get to push this sub, i was thinking somewhere around 300-400rms @2ohms (ive been told this sub will take more power then recomended) so he wants to stay under around 200$ for the amp, and it would be good if someone found something that would work if he uprgraded...thanks in advance

This might seem ridiculous, but you could run off just one channel on this amp, which gives better dampening factor and the amp would run cooler, plus you would have room to upgrade...not to mention having an awesome amp(it shouldn't go over $200, though I'm not sure): http://cgi.ebay.com/Precision-Power-Amplifier-PPI-PC-2150_W0QQitemZ170022341000Q QihZ007QQcategoryZ18796QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

how does that give you a better dampening factor? impedence and power supply is what determines dampening factor..

well, the imoedence of the speaker and the ouput of the amp. the higher the impedence the better damping factor :-)

i'm not sure how to calculate it though, do you jexx?

is it just the load on the amp and the load across the speaker wires? divided by eachother?

Calculating it requires expensive equipment haha. I wish I could. haha

In Glasswolf's amp article:

quote:

Most amplifiers will put out slightly more (but not a tremendous amount more) power when only a single channel is driven. This occurs because the power supply only has to provide power for a single channel, and its DC voltage doesn't sag as much.

That would also result implicitly in a better dampening factor. I've talked to some EE friends about it and they've said the same. Hope that clears that up :-)
