ILLEGAL?

are these detectors illegal? i'm not sure and am new to this. if they are illegal, wouldn't it be dumb to mount them right in front on the dashboard? where else can you mount the detector if you want to hide the unit?

No- they are only illegal in Virginia., Mounting it on the dash is necessary for decent sensitivity.

Va, DC, Ct I believe.. they are illegal in a few states. Laws on radar decection vary state to state.
check with your local police for specifics, or check the net.

nope your wrong. illegal in DC and virginia only, and in trucks over 10,000 lbs in all states. illegal to mount on front window, as it is an obstruction of view. most likely will not get a ticket for it, but it is a law.

I was right, actually. Ct just repealed the law in 98.

seems to me that someone that has not only owned all the top of the line detectors, but also has sold them would know all the laws and restrictions on them. guess not.

you're just trying to be an assmunch.
go elsewhere with your childish drama, kiddo.

are you even old enough to drive yet?

seems to me that people who have lives wouldn't post over 3,000 messages on some web page. especially when you're in your 30's. some person you turned out to be huh? always wondered what happened to "those" kids in highschool.

not at all. we all have our faults.
I am however, content in my life, and that is all that really matters.

I hope you're content in yours as well.
I'm self employed, which leaves me enough time to enjoy my hobbies like car audio, and trying to give back to the community.
If my time spent here helps others, it's worth the time spent.

Sorry this has nothing to do with Radar but it is the closest forum I could find on here and hopefully someone with CB radio experience can point me in the right direction.

Hi, well I might as well start out by saying I am a newbie to the CB world so please excuse the basic questions, I just want to make sure I get the right rig for what I wan to do with it. I use CB basically to listen most of the time, for warnings from the trucks as far as cops and traffic hazards. I hardly ever talk unless I really have something to say or a reply to someone that talks to me first. That being said, I want to be heard when I talk, so I am interested in some info either on some type of amp or perhaps one of the 10 meter "export" models. I like having the NOAA weather channels, so I was looking at the Midland 77-120 ESP or the Cobra 18 WX18 II.

If I go with one of these, what is the "peak and tune" that I see on some of the CB web sites? Does it increase watts output or do I need a separate amp to do that?

My other question is, I just started finding out and doing some research on these "export models" and I really like the looks of the Magnum 257, but the freqs are not for CB, can this be done with a mod? What about the weather freqs? And if so, I guess I would not need a separate amp since these put out about 30 watts from what I can tell.

Any advise anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated. Getting ready to take a 1000 mile trip in July and need something by then. Price wise I am not cheap but don't have all the money in the world either, hopefully not going to spend more than 200 bucks or so ( I found one site that has a refurb Magnum for 169)

Thanks

Mike

Glass not trying to be a smartass are anything but a 1988 ford festiva lx and a 1994 jeep grand cherokee isn't in the 6 digit range. and it doesn't really look like you live in a 500000 dollar neighborhood either.

The house is 7,350sq feet of floor space, on lakefront property with several acres of land.
The only reason this house is actually as low a value, is due to location. If I had the same place in a more populated urban area, it'd be worth several times what it is.

The Festiva I got rid of back in 96. The jeep is the daily driver. The expensive car is the all original 1966 426 hemi dodge charger that doesn't go out on the road very often. If you're going to base judgements on the information from my webpage, you may want to look around the site a little more thoroughly.

I was a pro installer for quite a while. Now I just do it as a hobby, and like to help out when and where I can. I can't take the knowledge with me, so if I can pass it along, then good. I hope it helps.
thanks for the words. I appreciate it.

In New York it's illegal to have a radar detector in a commercial vehicle weighing more than 18,000 pounds.

Anyone have a radar detector that actually work in Canada? It seems the cops here have the latest toys. I used to have Escort 8500 but it never really worked againgst the new laser. Sure if a cop had one of those old radar it beeped, but there's hardly any of that here.
For once I'd like to find a radar detector company that only makes it for consumers not both.

This message is for GlassWolf and "Annonymous" - Would you both please just shut the hell up?! You are both acting like a couple of sniveling babies.

Is the Rocky Mountain Radar Detector and Jammer legal in Iowa, or isn't it? I don't really expect to find out the real answer, so please spare me the otehr unnecessary bullshit, if you don't.

I think Glass Wolf should buy a Phazer passive jammer and use it religiously on his way from his half McMillion dollar Mchome to McDonald's in his six figure car because THAT's what America is all about, overmortgaged, overfinanced, overweight, but you still get a ticket for driving 80mph on an interstate.

radar jamming is a federal offence and can be punished with a couple years jail time. berny you are thinking of laser jamming which is legal in 90% of the US. radar detectors are illegal in a number of states including virginia, DC and i think ohio or something. Conneticut just recently had their law repealed. it is only a rumor that radar jammers active and passive are available for citizen consumers. stop being a jackass Fta and get your bs back to the DSS section. stop spreading pointless information.
