ok my question is that on my amp its hpf is 35-250htz and on my headunit is a pioneer and is able to go from 50-125htz. lets just say if i were to set my hpf on my amp to 80htz would it let my headunit set it at 100htz and play at that level. what should i set it on so i can control through my headunit?

You need to set your amp higher than your hu because your hu will not override your amp.

Damn Sub Forum's down I answered your question right before it went .lol

whatever you set the HU to, set the amp's so they don't interfere. like, i have my HPF on my HU set at 100Hz and the one on the amp set to 80-90Db. that way, they don't interfere. i always use the HU crossovers as the main ones and the amp crossovers as back up.
