Does the altinator get drained by the cap if i have one?

CT told me that if i have a regular alt. a cap will drain it twice as fast that true? ct just conferming what you said, I dont think your wrong or anything just want some other opinions you understand. |

Gold Member Username: BestmankindLos Angeles, CA USA Post Number: 3637 Registered: Oct-05 | zepcoe just think of it this way. your stock alt is made to handle all your car electrical and your stock radio. if you add amp and sub then you are asking for more from your alt which it can't. by adding a cap thats another thing you are asking the alt to charge. so why add more work for your alt to do. you get your self a more powerful alternator and you won't have any problems. |

Silver Member Username: Safe_crackerChicago, IL US Post Number: 776 Registered: Jan-06 | A cap can be very beneficial to any electrical system and do not cause your alternators to draw more power than what your sound system already is. One thing they do is to act like a spring and cushions your electrical system. Like mechanical springs, they absorb unexpected changes and cushion the flow of current throughout the system releaving some stress on the alt. Now as long as you are running within your alt output range I would say you would be ok and a cap can aid in light dimming but don't use one because you think it will give you more power because it won't. A cap is used for power factor corrections |
