How can you tell without a voltmeter?

you can't also know that a stock system does not put out 14.4 volts, and most of the amps are rated at 14.4 volts.

i checked with a voltmeter today at the end of the 4ga wires and it read 14.06 volts. Does this mean that my amp will push the RMS voltage it is rated at?

you wouldn't hear a difference if it was actually 14.4v.

Take that measurement again and start turning accessories on and see if your voltage comes down. Then turn the system up and see if it comes down. Then rev the engine a little bit and see if it comes back up.

The point is your car's voltage could easily fluctuate 1 or even 2v w/o you ever knowing it, no need to worry about .36v.
