Troubleshooting, kinda lost...

I have a 1997 Honda Accord LX 4 door with stock speakers in the door and back with a Pioneer deck unit. I also have a Power Acoustiks Amp that is rated at something like 1600...but I don't understand all the technical details of how to measure proper wattage. All I know is the awp I have powers my two Bazooka 12 inch subs just fine. I also run a Capacitor that is actually a little over kill for this system.

The issue I am now being presented with is that everytime I start the car and let the "system" run a while it either pops or the cap's power rating (LED that displays it) drops from 14.1 to 12.5, and the speakers make a poping noise.

It is hard to explain the noise but it is like a deep boom, and it effects my headlights as well as most other electical components in my car. Now here is the strange part... If I keep the car in park the Capacitor reads 14.1 or 14.2 like normal and does not pop or anything, but as soon as I go to drive (it an automatic trans) the cap dies down and the poping begins.

The poping seems random, sometimes when I go over a speed bump or when I am just sitting at a stop light. The awp works great, as to my sups as long as it is in park and the car is not moving. But like I mentioned as soon as I get moving bad things happen.

I have checked all my conections and the fuse going off the battery seems shielded and fine. This exact setup ran great for about 2 months when i first installed it and then all of a sudden a few pops. Now it is hard to lissen or even keep it on with people in the car as it can be scary at time when it pops hard and the lights dim.

I pray someone knows more about this then me cause I am a real "newbie" to this car audio game. I had a friend help me install it and everyone worked great up untill recently.

Please tell me someone has an idea I should try.

Hi bud,.. I'm new at all this so please get a second opinion from one of the other guys on here, but personnally, I would guess its either your battery, or you alternator.

You can get either checked for free usually at your local garage!

I would agree with him on the alternator or batterey.... Running a system of any power is really not good for any of your electrical components. Most people don't realize that the alternator is designed for only the stock electronics and I know in my car it has a 105 amp alt. and when you go adding amps that draw 30 amps a piece your overdrawing on the alternator and it heats up and ruins bearings. The capacitor helps this but in my research a really nice battery like an agm of some sorts will work wonders....But like he said get both tested autozone has a little computer tool that they bring out to your car and run diagnostics on your electrical system. Let us know what you find out.....Also look into HO alt's
