A friend of mine took some house speakers of his and put them in his Jeep Cherokee and hooked up an 1100 watt Memphis amp to them. He only has the amp turned up a quarter notch but...i'm worried about him blowing his speakers. Please give opinions and suggestions.

Andre, the RMS is near or around 800 I do believe. MAX 1100. Haha Man,I have no clue why he has those stupid things in there.

lol, the rms on that amp is 1100 watts rms!
he is going to fry them suckers, if hooked wrong!
the question is how much watts rms those house subs can take, and how many ohms are they? and how are they hooked together?
if they are house subs, they are prob 8ohms, which will yeild to low power output on that amp!
he shouldnt mix and match stuff like that..
he needs to be carefull with that amp also.

Haha Alright i'll tell him. Yeah those house speakers are 8 ohms. I'm not sure what their RMS is though. Either way he is gonna hurt something. Speakers or Amp. One of the two or both.

he'll only blow out the speakers if he turns the volume up without actually listening to what the speakers sound like. Not blowing speakers is a piece of cake.

I've blown several subs (intentionally) and all of them sounded like complete garbage long before they blew. Sloppy, horribly distorted, and mechanical overexcursion before blowing. I somehow doubt he was talking about subwoofers though. You rarely see a passive subwoofer designed for HT use. They would only be for a nitch market who would know how to power them with an external amplifier.
