Ive recently been looking into buying a new HU for my car. I was looking into alpine's cda-9855 model when someone mentioned to me that HU with motorized faces break at around 3 years. does anyone know if this is true.

Yeah, normally the flex ribbon cable wears down on the motorized faceplate units. Ultimately, I belive it is worth it due to the convenience. Flex cables don't run for more than twenty dollars and replacing them is really quite easy.

Any HU with a motorised faceplate will need a ribbon replacing. I know Alpine here in the UK offer a good repair service, they fully service your unit too..

Jexx is right, once every2/3 years isn't too bad. any by then, you will either of sold the car, or got a new one

It depends on the circumstances. If you're changing the CD out of the unit often, it's going to make a great difference.
