Can someone tell me the formula that is used to determine air space. LxWxH / something?

L x W x H is volume, and you need to subtract driver displacement after that.
port volume as well if the box is vented.

depends on your driver.
should be listed in the T/S specs of the speaker.

it's the amount of air or volume the speaker displaces or takes up in the box.
when you put the sub in the box, that decreases the actual airspace in the box. in essence, making the box smaller.
same goes for port tubes.
