i just ordered one through my audioshop, and will be getting it installed some time next week.:-O

it was ordered from Remax, not sure who that is, but he said they are really nice.

it does 220A, above or at idle.
and it does 15.2V at idle, and 13.8 with a full load.:-O:-O

all in all it is going to cost me around $470.
just figured i would share the good news.

i used GW's formula on his website to determine how big of an alt i would need, and it is like 221.5A

you take your systems wattage, divide it by 12, multiply by 1.4(i multiplied by 1.4), and that is how many Amps of current your system will pull at full power. then you add your stock alt's amps, and that gives you a safe figure to go by when buying a HO alt.:-O

i multiplied all of my wattage by 1.4 b/c both of my amps are Class A/B.

you multiply by 1.2 to get the amps needed for your class D amplifier.
and you multiply by 1.4 to get the amps needed for your class A/B amplifier.

They redesigned it for 2005; the Xterra. The engine is also on a new platform, simliar to that of the Inifini G35.

So, as of now, no HO alt for me.

ReMax is residential and commercial real estate company in Canada. They sell houses!
Maybe they make HO alternators as a side business, you think?
Just kidding.

if my car already runs at like 12.5-13 volts without my subs in my car yet would it be a good idea to get an alternator?

If you're getting 12.5v-13v now, then something's wrong with your alternator. It should be 13.8v or higher without any load.

yeah muddy. good shot. i would have loved to have had a 220 amp at idle. mine is 220 but 170 at idle. it was the highest idle available that was model specific. and that was considered high, lol.
great choice. i hope it works well with your ride.

220A at idle...dayum, thats a h3ll of an alt muddy.

what do yall think about dual 180A alts?

i have a buddy that just graduated from the Nashville Auto-Diesel Academy, he can rebuild my old stock 100A alt to a 180A just like the HO-alt i run right now. (parts are like $50-$75)

I need to find a bracket to mount dual alts w/ though :-(

Anyone know where i can get such a bracket for a 98 chevy silverado w/ a 4.3L V6?

rebuilt alternators almost always fail. there are too many trade-offs. hence the significantly higher cost of new/originally built ones.

it is a remanufactured alternator.
not rebuilt.

I'd like to think that remanufactured and rebuilt are basically the same thing.

Your saying that this is $470, I think Acessive Amperage could build you a new one for less, couldn't they?

i think that mikechec was talking to marshall, not me.
remanufactured means they buy one, and rip out the guts and put better parts in it.
rebuilt means that they took one that was broken/not working, and fixed it.

my alt was $375
i got it for about $20-$25 over dealer cost

oh, and the alternator casing is off of a Ford Tempo/Topaz b/c that was the biggest one that would still fit directly on to my car(it comes with small spacers) and be able to hold all of the "guts" of the new parts.(notice the offset bolt insert in the pic with the shoe and the quarter):-O

Rovin, that better be some exagerration there because it is physically impossible to live 9,000 miles away. The earth is about 13,500 miles in diameter so therefore the farthest you could live would be 6,750 miles away. :-) OH GOD, i am such a nerd.

hey guys on the subject of HO alternators, i dont have the time to search through all 70 posts, my car runs at 13.5 volts now on the average, and im going to be putting in 2 10" RE SE subs and either a re 12.1 or kicker kx1200.1 amp, depending on which one i get told is better. will i need to get a new alternator or a second batter, if so which one, and how much will one cost me?
