Amp or X-over

ok i have 2 200wRMS subs w/ a 380w(250RMS) amp w/ exteral x-over and i was wondering if turning my amp up to peak power would hurt my amp? and if i need to turn it down should i turn my x-over down insted of my amp. Sorry if its a dumb ? inm a novice here.

How exactly do you plan to "turn up" your amp? If you're referring to your gain, that is not used to "turn up" your amp. Your gain should always be set to match the voltage from your head unit.

Your crossover is used to remove high frequencies from being sent to your subs. It has absolutely nothing to do with wattage.

Well see the x-over is seperate from my amp and i run RCAs from the HU to the xover to the amp inturn to the subs. and on the xover there is a gain control, and if i tun my amp "up" then i can go to the xover and turn that gain down and my subs get quieter. vicversa. and how do i match my amp watage to my HU?
