hooked it up, everything worked fine, but when i turned it off and touched the side(where the motor is) it was really hot, hot enought that i couldn't keep my finger there for more then 3 sec., i decided that these HU's just get hot, but when i smelled it it smelled kindof weird

is there a problem with the wiring? or do HU just get this hot

BTW its a panasonic cq8301-u in a 1995 Toyota Avalon

Yeah, if it's getting that hot that soon, it's definitely not something normal.

Wiring? Possibly a bad speaker wire connection or wiring more than one speaker off a channel, though I doubt that's what you did.

I would guess that it is more likely an actual component within the unit. If it has an acid/chemical smell, then you definitely want to get it looked at or see if you can pinpoint what component(s) is producing it.
