6 would be crazy. Why are you set on the w6's?

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I think having 6 instead of 4 will only get you an extra 1-2 dB.

atually its around 3 dbs every time you double your power or your subs, so I would say 2 more W6s would give you around 4 to 5 dbs real world

If he starts with 4 and gets 2 more w6's that isn't doubling.

I'd like to know how the 10w6's compare to the 12's in sealed enclosures. I'm thinking about upgrading my 10w3's and was wondering how those two sizes compared in SQ and low end extension. I guess I don't mind sacrificing some low end if the 10's "sound better". I only have 5 1/4' components and was worried about midbass transition.

Thanks and sry if this is a thread hijack. There's too may JL threads as it is. Mine would probably just get lost in the clutter.

Yeah and very close to JL Audio. I used to be a regular visitor to Speaker Warehouse in the late 80's and some of the present JL "bigwigs" actually helped build my systems. Manville designed my very first box for a pair of 10W5's.

I'm kinda clueless when it comes to the newer stuff, but my ported 10w3's are irritating the heck out of me and am trying to find the best SQ replacement I can. SPL is of not much concern as the 10W3d2's(250w ea) significantly overpower my front stage as it is.

I was thinking one 12W6, one/two 10W6's, or maybe an IDmax. I'm also not too sure of my Xtant 1001dx. Its got a damping factor > 200 @ 4ohm/100Hz/250w which only translates to > 50 @ 1ohm/100Hz/1000w. Was thinking maybe of going the 500 watt route(instead of 1000) with one W6 or an IDmax D4 if it would improve sound quality.

I'm 40 and am not so impressed with bass where I can barely hear myself scream(10w3's). I want something that will sound great in my Explorer at low to moderately loud volumes and am open to any suggestions.

Lol, I started when I was 16 back when everyone had power EQ's(= sounds like crap) powering a pair of 6x9's in the rear deck, and car amps, much less subwoofers, were scarcer than hen's teeth.

I prefer OLD school, but I guess you're right although I don't feel old.

Hay nick 4+2 isn't a double, but he is adding in a 3rd 1000 watt amp too.
