If I get the JBL GTO 1201.1 amp, and run my new subs to it, should my car's electrical system be able to take it? It's and '02 Cougar.

not sure how many watts that amp puts out, but just do this
RMS wattage/12 volts = amps your'll be pulling

if your pulling less amps then your alternator is rated at, then it'll be ok.

TB, the answer is NO. Stock alternators are 65A - 75A the most. Your electrial system uses bulk of that piece, leaving you very little for amps.

Well, is there any other option, like a lower powered amp? I have friends who have decent amps, and they didn't have to have new alternators.

What do they mean by a remanufactured alternator? Refurbished?

Most all alternators are, or else you'd be paying $500 or more.
Just call those places posted above, and they will gladly help you out. You need to get one for your model and no guessing.

See, this is where I get mixed signals, friends of mine have good stuff, and they don't have new alternators. Thnere Jimbo just said he has stock stuff, but with 1600W TRUE rms. In reality if I get that JBL or the Audiobahn it will NEVER EVER be run that high, without clipping or blowing the subs.

Jimbo, what kind of amp are you running?

1600 true rms would be 130 amps. His stock alt. probably isn't even 100.

Ok then what about the Audiobahn A8000T? It's rms is 400. Is there any reason I can't run one of those? With my subs wired in parallel to it?

My dilema is that I really am not wanting to mess too much with any of the major mechanics in the car. I wouldn't have the money to have it fixed if something went wrong with a new alt.
