Went to Audio Store (about 2 12" JL w7's)

Basically, I went to a audio store selling JL Audio W7's with the custom box made for it from JL audio itself. And he was telling me I don't need 2 12" because 1 is very good and was saying I would pretty much need to power with a JL 1000/1 and prolly another amp to. So he's pretty much wanting me to get just 1, I want to know which amps could run 2 12" JL w7s and make it sound nice, I don't wanna under power it.

Also, I already have 2 12" JL w3's but Im gettin a new car and giving those subs to my bro who split it with me. I wanna know if it will be louder (My 1 w7) with a new amp, vs my bros 2 12's w3's in a custom box with the Memphis 500RMS amp.

Thanks

It will probly be louder. The 1000/1 will power 1 w7 perfect.
If you want a crap load of bass, get 2, and another 1000/1.
2 will also cost a crap load more as well!:-)

In my opinion it will beat it in both output and sound quality

Don't really know what your local guy was thinking, but a 1000/1 is gonna be perfect for the w7. Your not gonna need another amp on top of that.

a 13w7 will be a good deal louder then a 12w7. The 13 has more surface area and greater excursion capabilities then the 12w7. A 1000/1 would be a great match for either sub. On the other hand, 2 12w7 would produce more spl then a single 13w7, but you would need to purchase a second 1000/1.

well this is the way you break it down. Normally when you add another sub with the same specs and double the power you gain 3db's. If you had 1-12w7 with 1000 watts or 2-12's with 500 watts each they are going to sound the same. it is not worth the extra money if you are not going to power them both with the same size amp which would be a 1000/1 to each. 1w7 will be louder then 2-12w3's but personally I dont really like the SQ of the w7. My buddy just fried his 3rd w7 today. Its ok though his dad owns the store that sells it. the lucky ba$tard. But back on track I would run 2 jl 12w6v2's off of that 1000/1 it will be louder then the w7 and it will sound much better.

Thanks James and Nick and Sub, and everyone else who answered. Actually I can set up an appointment with the Audio store and what there gonna do is put in the amp/sub to let me hear it so that should be cool.

I wanna try the jl 12w6v2's now that u said that. Isn't w6 750 Watts piece?

How much watts for W6 12, vs W7 12. Thanks

w6 is different than w6v2...
w6v2 12 is 400 watts RMS and 12w7 is 750 watts RMS

a 500/1 is a great amp for the 12w6v2 tho
as well as a 1000/1 for 2 of them

one more question then joe... 3 13w6v2s ... or 2 13w7s ... w6v2s have a 500/1 each... w7s have a 1000/1 each...
would it still be the w7s because of the xmaax and 500 watt increase?

That one would be hard to tell. Just because there's a 500 watt increase doesn't meen it's gonna be a ton louder, though it will make a difference of course. Doubling the power in general gains you 3 db's I do believe. And then there is the added xmax of the w7's. On the other hand, 3 13's are gonna displace a lot more air than 2 13's. I'm not sure on this one.

400 but the 500/1 is a great match for it. the 1000/1 would be a great match for two of them. It will outperform your brother and be louder then 1 12w7 its the best of both worlds.
