I have a sony CDX-L410X hooked up with a pioneer gm-x1040 with a small
JL sub. I had this set up minus the head unit in a different car, and
it rocked the car pretty well. However, right now it seems like its
barley hitting, and it only starts to hit hard when the music is up
loud, the only problem is that it makes the other speakers in my car
distort. Does anyone have any suggestions. I believe the amp is a
little more powerful than the sub can handle, although im not sure
because i don't know the specs on the amp. Thanks for any help

Well, a amp a little too powerful for the sub wouldn't make it be any quieter. Are you sure the amp is properly working. Are you sure the sub is properly working. If they both are I would say it's the headunit. Check the eq on the head unit, and any sub or bass controlls if there are any.

I believe they are both hooked up and working properally. This is the first time i've ever hooked up anything. I think its the headunit, its kind of crappy (not my choice, im the second owner of this car). When i get the money im going to get an alpine headunit. I know that when i had it hooked up in the other car it was alot louder, even though it was on a inline converter since that car had a stock headunit. I will play around with some settings on the headunit, because i think thats whats wrong. I have enough power going to the amp, and im pretty sure the wires are hooked up right.

Yeah. It's definitely the headunit then. Another crappy Sony story, lol.

yeah i think so too. It kinda sucks though, when i have the low set to 10 and the highs and medium set to 0 i still have distortion. I guess i will have to turn down the lows to something lower, but i should be getting a new alpine head unit sometime this month. And then i will be good.
