I don't know about recommending a unit, but if you have a cd that skips or otherwise freaks out, try making a copy of it (provided you have a cd burner on your pc of course) I use CloneCD a very simple program, all it does is copy cds, and it works very well for me. Most of the time the copy will play ok, provided the original is not TOO messed up.
