I've been knocking myself out trying to locate head units that dispense with built-in amplification and provide ONLY pre-amp outputs (hopefully 4-volt). Apparently, there is no term that distinctly describes these for web searches.
I've located a Pioneer and a Sony, but that's been it. Any suggestions?

umm.has the phrase "preamp only" ever rang any bells? Alpine has the 7995 on ebay for 299.

try to locate a clarion DRX-9675Z. Cleanest sounding CD player I've heard. Excellent sound processing. 4 volt preouts also
