They didn't really "discontinue" it, they upgraded year models, although I wouldn't really consider them an upgrade. The "Power series" is the equivalent. Remember the BP series originally retailed for much higher than what you can get it for now, a JBL BP1200.1 MSRP was originally about $750, now you could find it for half that or less. The newer JBL GTO 1201.1 is $500 retail, the BPX 1100.1 retails around $1000, but the BPX has upgraded with a fully regulated power supply that dishes out 1100W anywhere from 1 to 4 ohms. The reason the BPs became so cheap is a typical mass produced, stores "can't get rid of it quick enough" kinda thing. Note how long they've been discontinued, but they're still floating around after so long. That's the same reason Kappa perfects are so cheap, they originally retailed for $600, now you can get them for about $250. Just Harmon Kardon, big company mass produced equipment that gets overstocked. If things follow suit as typical, the new amps will drop their price after 1-2 years just like the older ones did. You'll just have to be patient.
