If i have a 3 cubic foot box with a round port with a diameter of 3 inches and a length of 8.75 inches giving it a 24 hz tune, would this create port noise? Should i go with a wider port for the shiva?

Thanks

blare for the shiva you will need two 3 inch ports 9.75 inches deep for a port volocity of .14 acceptable being less than .16 and thats at a power of 300 rms if you apply more power port volocity will go up the v max in the same box will produce the same at this box size and port size and length and power ps...im assuming this box size would be after displacements of ports and sub

If you don't mind spending a lil extra you might want to check out Adire's flared port kits. They claim "chuffing" equivalent to that of a regular 5 inch port for the 3 inch kit.

http://www.adireaudio.com/

goto car audio/flared port kits

FP3 is their 3 inch kit, FP4 their 4.

thanks for the input guys. Would port noise be a problem even though the length of the port is only 8 inches and both ends are flared. That said, would a slot port be better in this situation, than a round port? would there be less port noise even though it's longer?

thanks

yes steve your original port would be a big problem (cant use that tune with that size port) Your best alternative would be to with the two 3 inch ports 19.75 inches deep (.14 for .16 being max volocity allowed at 300 rms) or if you wanted to make double sure go with fishys suggestion

ps..a wider port or increased number of ports the same diameter requires more port length creating less port resistance but if you did a slot port with turns you could overcome the depth issue but doing so requires accounting for bends using the proper equasions
