| I have a 15 l7 and was going to take the dimensions from kicker.com, push the bottom out a couple inches to make the front lean back at 60 degrees because i have a wrangler with the back seat and want the sound to hit the back glass not the tail gate, will the change in dimensions mess up the sound? | i have box designs for infinity reference 1220W..small box design for low power rated amp(i use the sub myself in my home theatre with 120w amp and the sound is phenomenal).....sealed enclosure....have designs for ported and bandpass as well but have not tried them yet(just bought the MDF today)...i have tried other 12 inch subs in this box and they all sound great, but the infinity produced the most earth shattering bass (ask my nieghbours) if interested send me an email |

| Need assistance with blueprints for a box to build for my 2000 mustang convertible. I would like to keep some space for carrying my bowling ball, other than that I can use the entire trunk if neccessary... I removed the mach 460 system and replaced all speakers, but now have no bass to to the cheap speaker pods ford builds... I need to build soemthing that will give me decent sound when the top is down. Thee Internet Junklord | This is simple. Get a calculator. Cubic feet = Length x Width x Height in inches divided by 1728. You're concerned (obviously) with the internal dimensions of the box, don't count the thickness of the top, bottom, sides, center panel (if any), etc. Example: How many cubic feet is a sub box that measures 20" long, 16" tall, 12" deep? 20x16x12 = 3840 3840 / 1728 = 2.22 cubic feet Sheesh, I slept through Geometry and I figured this out.... Angled boxes are easy to figure also. If you're that interested, I'll do a small web page. It's easier to explain with a picture. Fiberglass and other enclosures that don't have flat sides are more interesting. A good example is a fiberglass box in a spare tire well. To figure the volume for them, I've converted the volumes of different sized containers (glasses, bottles, a 5 gallon bucket) into cubic feet. Then you just fill the beast up with water or sand using the containers and add all the cubic feet up to get a total. If you need to hit a specific size, say 2 cubic feet, just dump in the appropriate amount of water or sand, level it out, run some duct tape around the outside at the water line, then line up the bottom of your flat MDF baffle to that. I always went with water, a lot cheaper and easier than sand. Fiberglass is waterproof when it drys thoroughly. Either way, you'll probably have to shop-vac it out when you're done. |

motoman22 | Ermanno, Honestly, you can usually pick up prefab hatchback boxes for under $50 and they work well for subs like Volfenhag. They're already carpeted and prewired...mucho easier. Having a custom box is always better but Volfenhag does not publish their full driver specs so we can't even toy with numbers to figure out what they really need. Custom boxes won't help that sub, just get one that fits and make sure the woofers are mounted really well. If you want to build it anwyay, just make sure that there are two chambers in the box, each about one cubic foot in volume, and make sure the box is air tight. It's never a bad idea to pick up a couple of bags of PolyFill stuffing at Walmart (in the craft section.) It's what you put in pillows but it helps kill resonance in the box. Just lightly stuff one pound of polyfill per cubic foot of airspace (one pound per side.) Have fun |
