I just got an OPPO OPDV971H DVD player, here's the link to the specs: http://www.oppodigital.com/opdv971h.asp
I'm planning to buy Logitech X-530 5.1 surround sound speaker system. The shop assistant told me that I won't be needing a receiver with this one, he told me I just connect those speakers to the dvd player and it's done. However, thsese speakers were meant to be used on a PC, but that's not what I want. They have three cables - green, orange and a black one. The package comes with an adaptor that turns those three connectors into two cables - red and white. I've read on this forum that these only produce 2.1 sound, which is NOT what I want, I want true 5.1 surround sound. How do I connect these speakers to my OPPO OPDV971H DVD player? If I have to buy any additional cables, which ones then?

Thanks for any help.

DON'T BUY THE COMPUTER SPEAKERS FOR HOME THEATER USE

How much are you spending?

try to see or find my last few posts in this section or home theater setup

by the way the oppo's a start its great.

and you'll see links for my 5.1 recomendations..
such as boston acoustics speakers with a lower line denon reciever.

if you can spend a litttle more
check out reviews

these are great with a denon

I want speakers that don't need a receiver. The X-530 are great, but why is it that bad to use them with a dvd player? I've read this thread and it appears that there's a solution.https://www.ecoustics.com/electronics/forum/home-video/144744.html

go ahead then your on your own.

the denon can do all your hook ups from dvd .

cable box..
games etc..
then only one hdmi cable to your tv,,

and my recomendations are far superior,

take care

Thank you for the recommendation, but my budget doesn't allow that. I only have enough money to buy the Logitech X-530 speakers.
What I'd like to know is why did you write 'DON'T BUY THE COMPUTER SPEAKERS FOR HOME THEATER USE '

Don't PC speakers work with a DVD player if connected properly? I'm going to do that on my own by following that thread

ok then if you can get them to work and you have a question ask someone in that thread.
I'm the home theater guy
aka theaudioguy.ca
not computer geek guy!

I'm not sure you'll get true hd sound from your oppo using a left and right from a pin connector.

if you can all the best bro!
