I just got DSL at the house today (NO MORE DIAL UP!) and I downloaded bittorrent and its downloading things as slow or slower than dial up did... Is there something I need to change? I cant figure it out but I am by no means a computer genius. Thanks guys

Andrew, you should try to check out your settings/filters in the options.

Also check out if firewall is enabled...that may be an issue.

You don't really need to be a genius to change some settings. It should mainly be your filters.

ORRRR your prob downloading a torrent that has very few to none seeders.

BTW what bittorrent program are you using?

Your DSL modem probably also acts as a router and has a hardware firewall built in. You need to open ports 6881-6889.

I've already messed with the filters and firewalls

Ill open the ports when I get home. The internet is quick but just the torrent manager.

i used to use uTorrent before to download all my torrents and i always used to get sh!tty speeds. I tried Bitlord and got much better speeds.

Don't know if its the program or what but it did make a biggg difference for me in the speeds i got.

Just my .02

I prefer µtorrent but BitLord is also good and BitComet too. Anyways, it has way more to do with what your settings are than what client you use. Get µtorrent here: http://download.utorrent.com/1.8.1/utorrent.exe and/or BitLord here: http://www.bitlord.com/BitLord_1.01.exe, find a cd you want using this: http://torrent-finder.com/ that has alot of seeders (80+) and go. If it is still slow we will have to go through your settings.

First of all make sure your XP firewall is off like it should be. Then use this:
