I am able to buy a sony kf-50we610 from a friend
at sony (B stock - used at a trade show and repackaged) for $1600. additioanl 5 yr warranty available for $180.

I can also buy a new kdf-50we655 in october
for $2300.

should I buy the B stock with or without
the extended warranty? or wait and buy the new model with the cable card slot?

any advice appreciated

Ed, if your cable company can provide you with the cable card or if you have use for it, by all means purchase the kdf50we655. But in my opinion, I would wait on the new model IF your going to purchase it. With new technology, comes new problems. I know with kf50we610 model there was the bulb issue, well Sony now has replaced the bulb and corrected the problem. Im planning to purchase the kf50we610 today at Best Buy. But before I buy it I need to make sure the manfacturing date is after July or August due to the bulb issue.
Before you buy the KF50we610, make sure to look at the manfacturing date on that TV and NO I wouldnt get the 5yr warranty.
