My parents purchased a new CRT SDTV about one month ago. About a week ago I noticed a few small wavy lines on the left side of the screen. They are usually only noticable on a dark gray or black screens. I've also noticed them when watching a DVD, but they went away after a minute or two. I think this might be something called moire, but I'm not sure.

Is this something that can be corrected? If not, does this mean the tv is defective? Is it something that will get worse over time? What is causing this?

The tv is 27" and 480i (I think). My parents have digital cable. The tv is connected to the cable box via coax cable. The DVD player is connected to the tv via composite cables.

The tv, dvd player, cable box, and vcr are all plugged into a surge protector. I think, but I'm not sure that when the tv is turned on that the lights in the room dim for a split second.

Since it is a new tv, take it back while you still can under warranty.

For what reason? Is there something wrong with it? My parents don't even seem to notice this moire problem.
