You must use RG6 from the LNB to the switch and to the receiver.....

rg6 is recommended, will perform better depending on the length of the cable run, but rg59 will work and you probally won't see any difference in performance in lengths 75ft and under .Most important are the terminal connections.King should do a thread on the technical differences of coax cables .But like "nikk" I recommend and use rg6.

There is not much to it
Rg-59 or any coax you can easly loose several DBs within few feet due to limited quality of its shield

Where as RG-6 is quad shield superior results only 1 to 2 dbs loss for 100 feet of cable. Good crimps and rubber covers just as important.

It is not going to improve either sound or video because they are not analog. The only analog is the beam with encoded digital A/V

But you'll get reliable reception.
Improving signal amplification.

Thanx for recommending RG-6 until they come up with something optical or HDMI RG-6 is best way to go.

My testimony for RG6 cable...When i first installed my Dish, I was in a hurry and left a 100ft length of cable attached between the dish and my receiver.

Later on, I figured that i would shorten the length of the cable and the signal quality would improve(was getting about 90%). I then reduced the length to about 40 feet and the signal quality actually stayed the same!

Thus there was no signal loss even with the 100ft length of RG6. Do not fool around with RG59 anymore, use only RG6 for satelite or cable.

My testimony for RG6 cable
You can do up to 200 feet with a loss of 2 dbs or less
You'll still get great signal Amplification

Best magnetic shield in the market
If use with good connectors
