Which sub hookup would use the subwoofer power & be less of a strain on the receiver.I am now using the rca hookup but I thought my previous speaker wire hookup had more punch.Does this make any sense?I am using a HK 330 receiver with a CV lw15 sub.The sub does not seem to be as powerful now with the rca (with Y)hookup.Maybe I've got all my settings screwed up.Please help.Mike.

Receiver specs are sometimes misleading. Watts are indicated as maximum for one channel working alone. A different story when all channels work together. Then power supply becomes an issue. If you're a fan of high volumes, it could be a good idea to check out your receiver's maximum power consumption, divided by channels used.

The sub is self-powered anyway, so either should be identical. The gain might be different, meaning you have to turn the sub's level dial to different settings for both hookup methods.
