I have several Technics turntables that work perfectly when I use them with my newer receivers.

However, I'd like to use them with some vintage 70's receivers I've acquired (all have PHONO inputs). When I hook them up, they play...but on a VERY low volume. I have to turn the volume all the way up to hear it at all. Volume works fine if I'm listening to the radio.

I thought if a receiver had a PHONO input, you were good to go. Am I doing something wrong? Let me know if you have any ideas why these components aren't playing well together.

.

A '70's receiver should have a working phono pre amp. CD's weren't introduced until the early '80's and receiver didn't begin losing phono inputs until late in that decade.

What phono cartridge are you using?
