I have a kc 993 that only the tape 2 input outputs full volume to my amp the rest I have to turn up all the way to hear. Also occasionally when I switch inputs it still will only play the signal from tape 2? Is this possible to repair? If so how? Or do you know of anyone in the Lubbock Tx area that could fix this?

The one picture I find screams mid-90s. That makes this piece nearly or around 20 years old.

EBAY has a service manual listed for about 11$ US since most repair shops will NOT have that information.

Any tech with that manual can probably figure out what's wrong and will CHARGE for the effort. Such charges are usually waived IF you decide to go ahead with the fix. Parts? Good question. Even if Kenwood DIDN'T use any proprietary parts, some ICs and even discreet (transistors, mainly) will be difficult to find and source.

A MUCH better preamp, and only about 200$ or so, can be had, also on EBAY, in the form of a PARASOUND P3, which was current up to about 1 year ago when replaced by the (about) 1000$ P5.
Depending on how many tape decks you have, EITHER would be a good replacement. The P3 was inproduction for many years and was and IS fairly well regarded, especially for the now current 'ask'.

Check with ANY local 'audio society' for a tech who specialises in audio. Otherwise, the local TV guy would be a reasonable choice.
The 350 mile or so drive to Dallas/Ft.Worth MIGHT be your best option. OUCH!

ME? Might be time to consider junking out the old Kenwood. If fixed, it is, after all, getting along in years and is more fragile and difficult to fix. A new piece along the lines of the Parasound wouldn't be a bad idea. Sorry.
