Analog/digital connection

would like to know if I will still be able to receive full Dolby digital sound from my satellite receiver if I have it connected to my AV hometheater with an analog RCA component cable.

many thanks

Not likely. There is a provision for 2.0 sound but you need the digital input or 6 (5.1) channel analog for surround.

Yup derek is right on the money

hello again
what do you exactly mean by the 5.1 channel analog ?
my av system is a Sony DAV/sa30
Receiver part
5.1 ch surround
5 x 44W (RMS)
Dolby Digital / Dolby Prologic II / dts decoder
RDS tuner with 30 presets
2 x Audio In / 1 x Audio out
2 x Video in / 1 x Video out
(these are the 3 RCA component outlet, red, blue..)

DVD part
DVD-Video / Super Audio CD / Video CD / DVD-R/RW / DVD+R/RW playback
CD / CD-R/RW / MP3 / SVCD / JPEG playback
JPEG slideshow function

Speaker part
8cm unit subwoofer
1 way satellite speaker system

You satelite receiver doesn't have it but some DVD players have built in decoders and have 6 (5.1) analog audio outs.

Some receivers have a coresponding direct 6 channel input.

These 6 inputs or a digital connection are the only way to hear Dolby Digital.

There is a provision for 2.0 channel audio (The Fifth Element defaults to it) where your receiver can decode to 2 channels to 5.1. You would also have to set your DVD player to output PCM. But it sounds different.
