Pioneer Elite VSX-41 vs. Denon AVR-1804

I am trying to upgrade from an old Onkyo 55w per channel 5.1 system to something a little more powerful. I currently have Polk speakers, but may upgrade them in the near future as well. I was looking for a new receiver in the $300-$400 price range. After lengthy research, I have narrowed my choice to a Pioneer Elite VSX-41 or a Denon AVR-1804. Does anyone have any input on either of these models and which one might sound better on Polk speakers?

I have a friend with a Polk system with the vsx41 and it is a very nice sounding match. The Elite would be a better match with Polk than Denon as the Elite is a little mellower and the Denon is a bit brighter and thus not as good a match with Polk. Go for the Elite.

I am thinking of upgrading to Paradigm speakers soon...would Elite still be your choice for those speakers?

Probably not. For Paradigm I would recommend NAD,Rotel, Onkyo/Integra. I would avoid Yamaha and SonyES with any speaker system.

Anyone else?
