Help with DVD to Receiver or TV?

I have the Samsung 50" DLP TV, JVC XV-S65 and a yamaha HTR-5240 receiver
I was told that I should use component cables to get the most out of my dvd/tv combo. However, I noticed that my receiver doesn't have a component video input. Does that mean that I connect the dvd to the tv using the component cables and connect the dvd to the receiver using standard analog audio cables? Will this cause any type of delay between the sound and video when playing back a dvd? Is this receiver not good enough to get the benefits out of my new tv?

Thanks

Connect the DVD to the TV with component cables and the audio to your receiver - this is the popular method and reduces video processing.
