Matching Speakers Necessary?

I am buying some Canton fronts and center for my home theater system and going to have some in-ceiling speakers for the rears/surrounds. Do I need to stick with Cantons for those also or could I go with a different brand? My local retailer recommend some Proficient in-ceilings (C870 LCR's)since the tweeter pivots and the woofer is angled. I just want to make sure having 2 different brands wouldn't compromise the sound quality. Thanks.

In my opinion, having the front speakers timbre matched is necessary. The surrounds are important to be timbre matched if you want the integrity of your surround sound to be perfect, but I don't think it is necessary.

My surrounds are not timbre matched to my fronts and center and I can not hear any difference.

I agree with Jet.

The only time it'd be necessary to brand match your rears is if you listen to a lot of surround music on SACD or DVD-A.
