I'm putting together my first HT system. I've settled for one of the two following combos:

Marantz 4400-Athena Micra 6 speaker system
Marantz 5400-Onkyo HT520 speaker system

Please advice, I will also take more suggestions, mind my budget (800).

Why not the Marantz 5400 with the Athena Micra 6? Either way, I will put the Onkyo speakers out of the equation, but that is MY preference.

Your mileage may vary, lather, rinse repeat:-)

I would definitely choose the athena micro 6 over the onkyo set. The onkyo speakers sound thin, and are kind of inefficient (around 86db if memory serves).

Definitely the Athena when picking vs. the Onkyo. Have you looked at Orb Audio?

Thanks for your suggestion about orb audio. Is the mod1 set from orb audio much better than the micra 6 from athena? Take into account the fact that they will be used for both music and movies.

I really have to try those Orb Audios, heard too many good things about them, lately.:-)

I think they are...the Orbs are really good at both music and movies, which is rare for a small satellite system. They are also upgradeable, which I think is cool, if you ever move the system into a bigger room or just decide you want more output. They have a great, full sound, and the sub is really snappy and deep.
