I am considering purchasing a JAMO in-wall speaker to use as a centre channel in my SACD surround sound system.

Anyone familiar the JAMO range of in-wall speakers?

I have been advised that it is not necessary to have a centre channel for music only; others have advised that it IS essential for SACD music
reproduction.

I am confused about this.

IMHO - The center speaker in hi-res music gets allocated a large portion of the signals. This doesn't mean a phantom center won't do, but I believe a dedicated center is more accurate in conveying the engineers intent in multi-channel mixing.

The other point I'd make is that if you are going to have a center speaker - make it a decent one that is up to the task of handling the work it is intended for. Piddling speakers just won't do for hi-res surround music. I'm not saying the one you have chosen is that - I don't know it. But imho, if you want to appreciate these wonderful hi-res formats in all their glory - don't skimp on the speakers. Cheers.
