We are looking to buy a home theater systems, complete with receiver, floorstanding speakers, center, bookshelf speakers, subwoofer and projector. We have no real knowledge about electronics and would like your opinion on our picks. What do think about the HK AVR230 and do you have a better suggestion at the same price range or a bit higher if it's really worth. And if you have a suggestions about the hole deal : speakers and projectors. Your advise and suggestions will be welcomed.
Thanks to all

The AVR series is great IMO. There's not a huge difference in sound quality as you move up the line towards the AVR7300. The difference is in the power available to your speakers. The AVR230 isn't ideal for floorstanding speakers. You could power them, but you would never be pushing them anywhere near their limit.

The AVR630 is available for around $700 now. Plenty of power and it
s a great bargain plus you can expand to a 7.1 system down the line.

If you can wait a month or two, the AVR 235 and 335 will be released and the upgrades on these new models should be worth the small price increase (if there is one).

If you can spend $500 to around $650 for the receiver and you like HK, I would look at the AVR335 or AVR435. Both of these machines will give you more power and many more features than the AVR235. The differences in actual sound quality between all these models is essentially insignificant, as they all have a nice, neutral to slightly warm sound (depending on your speakers of course).

Marie, it should be by mid november, and like I said before, it should be a worthy upgrade if you can wait that long.

Let me know if you want a link to find out more about it.

Marie, here is some info on some of the upgrades for the AVR line.

Go to harmankardon.com, pick Canada under the country and look under news and press releases.

Hope this helps ; )

Harman Kardon's 7.1-channel AVR 635, AVR 435, AVR 335 and AVR 235 and 6.1-channel AVR 135 audio/video receivers are significantly upgraded from previous models, and offer an expanded complement of the latest Harman Kardon technologies, features and connectivity options to redefine receiver performance and value in their respective categories. The AVR 635, AVR 435 and AVR 335 include Harman Kardon's groundbreaking EzSet/EQ feature, which provides precise automated room equalization and comprehensive system calibration functions to achieve extraordinary sonic realism.

Representing a major evolution in audio/video receiver functionality, EzSet/EQ automatically measures the frequency-response peaks and dips inherent in every listening room, and applies a compensating full-range equalization curve for all loudspeakers in the system, providing smooth, accurate in-room frequency response. EzSet/EQ also automatically determines if the loudspeakers are connected properly, and sets speaker-output levels and delay times. The AVR 235 includes an EzSet remote with automatic speaker-level calibration, while the AVR 135 is supplied with a full-function remote.

All five AVR Series receivers are ideal for use in HDTV-based home entertainment systems and custom installations, and include wide-bandwidth, HDTV-compatible component video switching as well as switchable digital input polling, a Harman Kardon convenience feature that detects whether the audio signal from a program source (such as a cable set-top box) is digital or analog, and automatically selects the correct input type. All models offer more video and audio inputs than they previously did, and incorporate upgraded 24-bit/192kHz D/A converters and powerful 32-bit DSP processors to deliver superlative fidelity and resolution.

The receivers offer a host of advanced features such as a Quadruple-Crossover Bass-Management System, which allows the selection of one of six different crossover frequencies for each of the four loudspeaker groups in a 7.1-channel system (models AVR 635, AVR 435, AVR 335 and AVR 235) or a Triple-Crossover Bass Management System (AVR 135); Dolby* Pro Logic* IIx, Dolby Headphone and Dolby Virtual Speaker processing (all models except the AVR 135); A/V Sync Delay (all models except the AVR 135); exclusive Logic 7 surround-enhancement technology to deliver heightened sonic realism from surround sound and stereo source material; and many additional refinements.

Pricing for Harman Kardon's AVR Series receivers is as follows: AVR 635, $1,299; AVR 435, $999; AVR 335, $799; AVR 235, $549; AVR 135, $449. All models will be available in fall 2004.

I read that the AVR330 has an "illuminated" remote. Is this true...does that mean it has backlighted buttons?
