COOPER CITY, FL., 9/07/04 — Wireworld has introduced its Supernova 5+ Glass Fiber Optic digital audio cable, which reduces digital jitter effects for dramatic improvements in sound quality over conventional optical digital and coaxial digital audio cables. The Supernova 5+ employs 280 individual glass fiber optic light conductors with precision polished terminations, and is available in lengths of 1, 2, 3 and 5 meters.

Conventional fiber optic digital audio cables utilize plastic conductors, which are far less transparent than optical-grade glass. These plastic materials filter the light spectrum of the digital audio signal, removing the energy needed by the digital processor to accurately decode the signal. The result of this filtering is a problem known as digital jitter, the intermittent loss of synchronization between the digital processor and the signal, which creates audible distortion and noise.

“People tend to assume that digital audio signals are not fragile, since they are simply made up of ones and zeroes, but this assumption has been proven wrong,” comments Wireworld president David Salz. “The audible distortion and loss due to digital jitter is often the easiest cable difference to demonstrate in a home theater. In most home theater systems, replacing the plastic toslink cable or coaxial digital cable with a Supernova 5+, distinctly improves virtually every aspect of sound quality.

“Reducing jitter is crucial to delivering on the full promise of digital audio reproduction,” adds Salz. “The fact is that optical cables are the most common means of transmitting digital audio signals in home theaters and there is very little being done to give consumers an upgrade for this critical part of the signal path. The Supernova 5+ fulfills this need, with surprising improvements over conventional cables, for a relatively small increase in cost.”

Wireworld’s Supernova 5+ optical digital audio cables are covered in flexible green PVC, and feature additional internal shielding to prevent damage to the glass fibers. It is currently available at suggested retail prices between $125 for a 1-meter cable and $225 for a 5-meter length.

Wireworld, which was founded by Salz in 1992, offers a broad spectrum of very high quality full-range and bi-wire loudspeaker cables, audio and video interconnects, digital audio interconnects, power cords, and digital A/V cables. The company has an excellent reputation among audio and home theater enthusiasts for producing high quality cables based on the use of objective perceptual testing, patented designs, premium materials, and exceptional manufacturing quality.
