WHDI Standard Delivers Multi-room Wireless HDTV Connectivity With HDCP as Content Protection Technology

New Specification of HDCP Approved by Major Content Providers
With WHDI Standard as a Supported Interface

CES, Las Vegas, Nev. — January 6, 2009 — WHDI LLC today announced that the new Wireless Home Digital Interface (WHDI) standard for multi-room wireless HDTV connectivity will enable High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) revision 2.0 as its content protection technology.

The combination of industry-leading WHDI technology and the ubiquitous HDCP will enable compatibility of new WHDI enabled TVs and sources with billions of HDMI/HDCP-enabled devices in consumers’ homes.

“HDCP over WHDI technology will allow WHDI enabled devices to deliver the full potential of wireless connectivity, from any device to any device, through multiple rooms in the home,” said Leslie Chard, president of WHDI LLC. “By using state-of-the-art HDCP revision 2.0, the WHDI standard has positioned itself as the leading wireless standard for bringing secure high-definition connectivity to all devices in the home.”

“HDCP revision 2.0 has implemented powerful security enhancements that make it the ideal choice for protecting high-value video content over modern interfaces well into the future,” said Stephen Balogh, president of Digital Content Protection (DCP) LLC, which licenses HDCP specifications. “The combination of HDCP and the WHDI standard gives both the industry and consumers user-friendly wire-free connections throughout the home together with a state-of-the-art security technology.”

HDCP revision 2.0 includes a locality check protocol that enables the distribution of content throughout a local area. It protects content using a 1024-bit RSA key exchange algorithm and a 128-bit AES encryption technology.

HDCP on WHDI was developed by DCP LLC with contributions by AMIMON, a founding member of the WHDI SIG. Specifications are available at www.digital-cp.com.
