Vidikrons Ultra High-Resolution Projection System Receiving Rave Reviews

UNION CITY, CALIFORNIA — April 27, 2005 — High-definition theater in the home has reached a new level of quality with the release of Vidikron’s Vision Model 80 Projection System. This package combines the Vision Model 80 projector with the VDP-80 Controller/Processor to bring home theater viewers unparalleled high-resolution images from any video source. The dual-component system has recently been demonstrated at such venues as the 2005 Consumer Electronics Show, and those who have seen it have been extremely impressed. With a stunning native resolution of 1920 x 1080, the highest available in the consumer market with over six million pixels, and a host of cutting-edge imaging features, the Vision Model 80 ensemble is one of the most advanced home cinema projection systems yet available.

John Williams, editor of HomeTheaterSPoT.com, attended CES 2005 in Las Vegas, and visited Vidikron’s demo theater, where the Model 80 was showcased with several movie clips including one from the film, Gladiator. To quote Mr. Williams: “… the picture quality, the detail was so good; you could tell that the ‘wear’ on Russell Crowe’s helmet was painted on. It looked fake. I’d never considered that a picture at ANY size, let along that big, could be that good–so good that you could see through the illusion of fabricated props and sets.”

“The Vision Model 80 Projection System is quickly becoming one of the ultimate performance video ‘gotta haves’ to those in the know,” noted Jim McGall, vice president of sales & marketing at Vidikron. “We’ve been showcasing the Vision 80 at numerous events across the country, generating rave reviews while building momentum toward our first customer shipments. With the official release of the very first systems just this month, the accolades are continuing to pour in — but now from our valued Vidikron system owners, direct from their private home theater screening rooms. Now the most discriminating video enthusiasts can enjoy what many people are calling one of the finest, home cinema experiences yet available.

Vidikron’s Vision Model 80 Projection System features a remarkable new light engine that utilizes three high-definition 1920 X 1080 D-ILA (Direct Image Light Amplifier) chips, one each for red, green, and blue for outstanding accuracy across the entire color spectrum. This technology achieves the highest resolution yet attainable in consumer home video systems, with stunning image detail and video fidelity exceeding most of today’s source material. The three-chip system eliminates the flicker and “rainbow effects” that can detract from the performance of some single-chip digital video displays. The projector produces 1,050 ANSI lumens of light output (CSMS Light Output of 18.1 ft-Lamberts, when measured on screen) and maintains a 2,100:1 contrast ratio to create stunning pictures on even the largest home theater screens.

The VDP-80 Controller/Processor was designed as an outboard component to simplify installation in any viewing environment. The controller/processor features Vidikron’s exclusive Imagix video processing, which transforms even standard video programming to near high-definition quality. Vidikron’s engineers also placed great emphasis on the VDP-80’s grayscale tracking and included true 6500K color reproduction capabilities for images that replicate the smooth, natural quality of actual film. The VDP-80 features 8 video inputs and discrete IR and RS-232 controls, as well as discrete source and aspect ratio selection for seamless integration with any automation control system Aspect ratios include Vidikron`s proprietary IntelliWide mode, for viewing standard video formats in widescreen without loss of image quality. While the Vision Model 80 System was developed, first and foremost, to produce beautiful images, no small effort was given to developing an industrial design that is, in itself, something to admire.

“Our Model 80 projector is distinguished by Italian-inspired styling and elegantly finished to blend very well with any decor,” McGall added. “We approached the design of the Model 80 system with every aspect of performance in mind. We wanted to make this package a truly one-of-a-kind solution for video connoisseurs, and our entire team put in tremendous dedication to realize this system’s capabilities. Each of us at Vidikron is very proud of the work we’ve accomplished in this project.”

The Vision Model 80 and VDP-80 Controller/Processor package retails for $29,995.
