Sonance Debuts Self-Contained Multiroom Home Audio System

Simplicity, Flexibility, and Affordability, Make Winning Combo

San Clemente, CA–January 2007–Sonance, the California company that developed the first in-wall loudspeaker, has introduced a new whole-house entertainment system that makes it easy for the entire family to control and enjoy music throughout the home. The C4630SE Home Audio System allows homeowners to listen to four different audio sources in up to six different rooms (zones) at the same time–all from a single component no larger than a conventional receiver or amplifier.

“Whole-house audio has quickly become a ‘must-have’ feature for new construction and remodeling projects alike,” says Steve Crawford, Chief Marketing Officer for Sonance. “It is becoming the hottest retrofit category in consumer audio. But not everyone needs or wants the high cost and complexity of an ultra-high-end system. The C4630SE bridges the gap with compact, highly usable, yet extremely high-performance multi-room sound in an affordable package.”

The new Sonance system incorporates 12 channels of power amplification at 30 watts RMS each (20Hz-20 kHz; <0.1% THD), ready to power six rooms or zones of stereo loudspeakers be they in-wall, ceiling, outdoor, or conventional freestanding. Speaker connection is via secure four-pin screw-in connectors, and each zone can individually engage the C4630SE’s built-in BBE Sound Enhancement processing for a richer, more lifelike listening experience. There are also stereo line outputs for each individual zone, permitting expansion via an outboard amplifier on a room-by-room basis. Four stereo pairs of line-level inputs accept four source components, any or all of which are available for simultaneous distribution.

The benefit of any multiroom system is command and control.
The unique new Sonance Control Manager software integrated into the C4630SE is a Windows-compatible application that allows installers to quickly, efficiently, and easily program the system to serve the needs and preferences of the custom installation. Once programmed, the C4630SE delivers intuitive, flexible control of both the individual room and the audio sources, including the use of user-transparent macros to accomplish complex, multi-component sequences. Integrating source components is accomplished quickly via the extensive built-in code library.

The new Sonance whole-house audio solution accepts up to six individual (separately available) keypad controllers. Dedicated C4630SE keypads include Main and Numeric variants: the former accepts a selection of Sonance infrared receivers, enabling wireless-remote system command via an optional handheld unit. The C4630SE system also accepts the company’s acclaimed Navigator K2 and K1 in-wall keypads, which provide even greater powers of control and customization.

For more extensive or specialized system requirements, the C4630SE’s fully bidirectional RS-232 serial port supplies complete system control (both “inbound” and “outbound”), and compatibility with a wide range of available third-party control solutions. These can include wired and wireless touchpad controllers, home-network and handheld-device integration, and more. Integration of serial-controlled audio components such as the Sonamp 875D SE eight-channel power amplifier and the iPort music system for the Apple iPod can easily be added to the system. There’s also an extensive array of discrete control inputs and outputs, including eight IR ports, dual 12VDC triggers, and 12/24-volt supply and sensing jacks. Input/output paging/interrupt is of course included–the C4630SE even provides a pair of switched AC outlets.

A fully expandable system, the C4630SE includes “daisy-chain” outputs and inputs permitting multiple units to be linked and share source components. The C4630SE’s internal logic supports up to 24 fully autonomous rooms or zones, each with keypad and/or IR remote control.
