Snell Series 7 Speakers Designed by Joe DAppolito

Series 7 offers the highest level of sonic accuracy with striking aesthetic appeal

Snell Acoustics introduces several new models, the D7, M7, CR7, SR7 and Basis150 to the Series 7, Snell’s first line created from the ground up by famed chief designer Joe D’Appolito.

The visually striking Series 7 now consists of eight models. Seen for the first time are the D7 Tower, the M7 Monitor, the CR7 Center Channel and Basis150 Powered Subwoofer. These are in addition to the currently available K7, a 2-way monitor, the CR7, a 2-way design that incorporates the well-known D’Appolito Array and the Basis300, a 300-watt powered subwoofer.

“Our goal in designing the Series 7 was to produce a range of loudspeakers that offer a new level of sonic accuracy and esthetic appeal at affordable prices with a beautiful industrial design, ” says Joseph D’Appolito, Snell Acoustics Chief Designer. “We selected a new line of drivers from a world-class manufacturer that incorporates the latest advances in dynamic driver design. In a parallel effort, our industrial design team developed a sleek contemporary look combining the best of wood and metal trim to fit in with a wide range of decorating styles.”

The beautiful D7 is a floor standing tower configured in a 2-way design using dual 6.5-inch woofers with a 1-inch silk dome tweeter plus Snell’s trademark rear firing 1-inch silk dome tweeter mounted on the back of the speaker. Even without a subwoofer, the D7 is capable of deep, rich bass rated down to nearly 40Hz. The D7 sits in a casted aluminum bass, stabilized by four integrated feet. The M7 is a step down in size but not in performance using a single 6.5-inch woofer and a 1-inch silk dome tweeter.

The CR7 is a center channel speaker also using the D’Appolito Array to create a very broad, and even dispersion, either vertically or horizontally. Designed to work in conjunction with the K7 or M7 monitors, the CR7 is more compact than the LCR7, using dual 4.5-inch woofers and a single 1-inch cloth dome tweeter capable of placement in more size restricted locations. The center channel model is oriented horizontally and can be placed directly on a Projection TV or a stand under the TV.

The Basis150 is a 10-inch subwoofer rated at 150 watts and extends down to 32Hz. It is significantly smaller than the Basis300, for placement in more locations especially small listening environments.

Later this year, the SR7 dedicated surround will be added to the Series 7 line up. The trapezoid-shaped SR7 is an on-wall speaker and can be switched to function as either a monopole or a dipole depending on the needs of the customer, offering a combination of sonic diffusion or excellent localization of effects and instruments. On the frontside of the box is a single 4.5-inch woofer and a 1-inch cloth dome tweeter. On the sides, facing the front and back walls, are dual 2.5″ tweeters. The front tweeter plays in the direct mode, while the side tweeters are used in the diffuse mode.

Each model in the series is timbrally and cosmetically matched so any number of combinations can be created, to suite any listening and home theater environment. All the Series 7 loudspeakers, except the CR7 and SR7, come in two different wood finishes – natural Cheerry w/silver grilles and anodized aluminum accents or black painted Walnut with black grilles and black anodized accents. The CR7 is a black-powder coated aluminum cabinet with black anodized accents and black metal grilles. The SR7 comes in either a black or white-powder coated aluminum cabinet with matching accents and metal grilles.

All Series 7 speakers are provided with dual, 5-way silver-plated, solid metal binding posts and all but the surround are magnetically shielded, for use in proximity to video monitors. The finishes and cabinet construction are consistent throughout the line for easy mixing and matching of various models. Like all Snell speakers, the Series 7 models are tuned to .5dB of the reference master and can be special ordered in most woods and finishes.

The Series 7 will be priced as follows:
