NetStreams SpeakerLinX SL220 Offers Unmatched Intelligence for High Quality IP-Based Audio Distribution

Austin, TX — September 10, 2004 — NetStreams, the leader in IP-based Networked Audio/Video distribution, is leading the networked audio/video custom installation market with the first of its new line of IP-based intelligent amplifiers, the SpeakerLinX SL220, which are part of the benchmark-setting DigiLinX line of IP-based networked audio products.

DigiLinX marks a fundamental change in the way audio is distributed and controlled in a multi-room system. The SpeakerLinX SL220 amplifier has been designed to decode and play streams of uncompressed (PCM, WAV) digital audio for the more discreet listener, as well as MP3 and other compressed digital audio formats. SpeakerLinX is also capable of encoding audio from a local source, and contains a web server for generating a rich user experience that can be accessed from any computing or display device that hosts a web browser and Macromedia Flash.

SpeakerLinX is the core of the DigiLinX system,” said Herman Cardenas, founder and chief executive officer of NetStreams. “Think of it as a room controller, an intelligent amplifier. And with its small size — nearly as small as a credit card — you can actually place SpeakerLinX in a room. SpeakerLinX eliminates the need for a head end matrix switch found in traditional distributed audio system configurations. And the best part about the DigiLinX system is that you can easily keep adding as many rooms as you want — just add a SpeakerLinX and a control interface and you’re ready to rock!”

SpeakerLinX can be mounted on or adjacent to a speaker, and provides unsurpassed audio quality from a small footprint. By locating the amplifier at the speaker, power and damping losses are minimized. This results in impressive clarity and definition previously only typical of expensive audiophile component systems. NetStreams with SpeakerLinX puts this technology at everyone’s fingertips.

Hosting a 2-channel, 20 watt Texas Instruments’ (TI) Class D dual mono-block amplifier, SpeakerLinX delivers high performance digital stereo power. Burr-Brown DACs provide clarity and definition. Additionally, SpeakerLinX provides functions not found in traditional preamps with the inclusion of a high capacity (600 MIPS) TI Digital Signal Processor that enables easy adjustment of balance, treble, bass and summing. The amplifiers provide superb audio quality while managing a graphical user interface. They intelligently communicate and organize information from every node on a TCP/IP-based home network, effectively eliminating the need for a system controller and long hours of programming.

Installers can choose from 3 simple methods of integrating into the TCP/IP network: Auto-IP Addressable via DHCP; Auto-IP Addressable via NetStreams’ implemented Auto-IP Addressing; or Static IP Addressing. Dealers can quickly set up the system and select the speaker impedance (8 Ohms or 4 Ohms) using NetStreams’ DigiLinX Dealer Set-Up Program, even remotely. A mounting bracket is included for easy installation and mounting in-ceiling (on a truss or beam), or in-wall. Dealers can also choose to rack mount four SpeakerLinX amplifiers with an optional rack mounting bracket (sold separately).

NetStreams DigiLinX family of IP-based products offers very high quality and high performance audio distribution and control with capabilities never seen before, and a rich user experience only available in high cost systems today. This innovative product line, using NetStreams’ patent pending technology, is the first IP-based multi-room audio system in the custom market; ‘IP-based’ meaning a system that is not only controlled over IP, but also distributes its audio and video over packet-switched streams. DigiLinX delivers on the promise of convergence, effectively marrying networking technologies with hi-fidelity audio and later video, marking the introduction of ‘Networked Digital Entertainment’.
