Austin, TX — December 2, 2004 — NetStreams, the leader in IP-Based Networked Audio/Video distribution, announced that its innovative new DigiLinX Networked Audio System was named a 2005 CES Innovations Awards Honoree. DigiLinX is the first IP-based multiroom audio system for the custom market, and puts forward capabilities and control options never before seen in its application. DigiLinX was singled out by CES for delivering on the much-anticipated promises of convergence, effectively marrying computer networking technologies with high-fidelity audio, marking the introduction of ‘Networked Digital Entertainment’.
“The entire NetStreams team is proud to have DigiLinX named a 2005 CES Innovations Honoree,” said Herman Cardenas, president and CEO of NetStreams. “The participants in the Innovations Awards represent some of today’s most exciting products and concepts, which will shape the future of consumer electronics. Having DigiLinX selected from the entrants is exciting, and a great reward for all the hard work and dedication each of us has put into developing this product.”
DigiLinX was named an Innovations Honoree for the High-Performance Audio Category, whose entrants are judged by a three-member team comprised of an independent industrial designer, an independent engineer, and a member of the trade press. Judges review product descriptions, specifications, and photos, applying evaluation criteria to the following five categories: engineering qualities (based on technical specifications and materials used), product function, unique features, and improvement to the company (manufacturing and production processes), and aesthetic design. Weight to each category differs depending on the product category.
Honorees were first announced at the New York International CES Press Preview on November 10th. The selected group of companies will have their winning products displayed in the Innovations Plus area in CES Central Plaza at the International Consumer Electronics Show. The show is scheduled for January 6-9, 2005 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The DigiLinX system, using NetStreams’ IP-based patent pending technology, distributes audio over CAT5e using TCP/IP on an Ethernet network, in a meshed networked architecture. DigiLinX converts audio from a legacy source (Tuner, CD Player, other) in real-time, to uncompressed audio streams, allowing up to 24-bit, studio quality audio to be distributed throughout a home or commercial facility. All devices are network upgradeable. NetStreams’ DigiLinX products are available through AVAD distributors domestically, as well as selected distributors worldwide.
Among DigiLinX’s most impressive features is its ability to access and distribute metadata from advanced digital audio sources like Request Multimedia’s Audio Request digital media servers. The data is then displayed on the color display of the DigiLinX keypads. Now, a consumer can access any source, from any room, at any time, and if the source provides meta-data, DigiLinX allows the music to be selected by Artist, Album, Song, and Genre, and can also display the ‘cover art’.
The DigiLinX System can also distribute and play both uncompressed (.wav) and compressed audio formats like MP3. Additionally, because all of the processing code is stored in flash memory, updates to allow DigiLinX to support other new digital audio formats will be easily available in the future. DigiLinX does not limit the user interface to its keypads. Each component contains its own IP address and web server that can serve-up rich control pages to third party products such as PDA’s, Web Tablets, Web TVs, or computers, for a new experience in music management.
