Metz Introduces New Flash Technology Giving Professionals the Ability to Handle Any Demanding Lighting Scenario

Orlando, Florida (February 26, 2006) — Continuing with its tradition as a world-leader in developing high-quality flash technology for the professional photographer, Metz is proud to introduce two new handle-mount flash units at this year’s PMA. Specifically designed for digital, the Mecablitz 76 MZ-5 Digital and 45 CL-4 Digital offer unsurpassed high-light output, innovative features, and a unique adapter system that allows one flash unit to be used with variety of cameras from today’s leading manufacturers.

New Handle-Mount Flash Units
Metz’s new Handle-Mount flash units are the essential companions for any professional photographer. With astounding power and a max guide number of 249 feet, photographers can rest assured that with the 76 MZ-5 Digital they’ll have the ability to light their subjects, whether they are near or far. Designed to meet the needs of the advanced shooter, the 76 MZ-5 Digital features multiple shooting modes, a 20mm wide-angle diffuser as well as a zoom reflector from 24mm-105mm. Users will also benefit from the primary reflector’s ability to tilt 90˚ and swivel 360˚, a secondary reflector, as well as the flash’s twelve working apertures, giving them the capability adapt to any situation. In addition, the 76 MZ-5 Digital is equipped with a large, illuminated Dot-Matrix LCD display. Located on the control unit, the easy-to-read LCD gives professionals the ability to effortlessly access the unit’s various features as well as to identify flash settings before each shot.

Even though it’s the smaller sibling of the 76 MZ-5 Digital, the 45 CL-4 Digital still packs quite a punch. The 45 CL-4 Digital provides a max guide number of 145 feet (ISO 100/35mm), features a 28mm wide-angle diffuser and 6 auto working apertures, offering greater versatility and adaptability for any user. For added versatility the 45 CL-4 Digital boasts a secondary reflector and shooters can operate the flash in TTL, Auto or Manual mode.

With the Metz SCA adapter system, the new digital handle-mounts can interface with today’s ever advancing metering technologies, including Nikon’s i-TTL and Canon’s E-TTL. With competitive price-points and superior performance, the 76 MZ-5 Digital and 45 CL-4 Digital are the ideal alternative to camera manufacturers’ own proprietary flash technology.

Advanced Battery Technology
Along with its revolutionary handle-mount flashes, Metz has also developed a proprietary battery technology that sets a new standard in the industry. Utilizing the unmatched power of Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH), Metz will introduce the NiMH 76-56 and NiMH 45-57 batteries as well as the NiMH P 76 Power Pack at PMA 2006. Designed to maximize the amount of flashes per charge, Metz’s new NiMH battery technology yields impressive results.

Designed for the 45 CL-4 Digital, the NiMH 45-57 battery allows photographers to shoot a minimum of 220 flashes at full power; a 175% increase from the previous NiCad 45-40 battery. Photographers will recognize even more impressive results when powering the 76 MZ-5 Digital with the NiMH 75-56 battery, as they will be able to shoot a minimum of 180 full power flashes; an increase of 260% from the previous NiCad 50-40 battery.

Utilizing the Metz NiMH P 76 Power Pack will give professionals the added power they need, providing a minimum of 270 and 420 full-power flashes in the 76 MZ-5 and 45 CL-4, respectively. Ideal for the on-the-go photographer, the new high-performance power pack effortlessly attaches to the photographer’s belt and provides up to five times more flashes than other batteries. It also guarantees a significant reduction in recycle time between uses.
