LG Electronics Best Of Innovations Award Honoree

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6, 2005 — LG Electronics, a global leader in high-performance Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) technology and development, today announced a new lineup of top-quality LCD monitors with new functionalities and capabilities, which are on display this week at the 2005 International Consumer Electronics Show at LG Electronics’ booth #8214, Central Hall, Las Vegas Convention Center.

Leading the new class of LCDs is the f-ENGINEO driven Flatron L1730S, which was honored with this year’s ‘Best Of’ Innovations Award for Computer Components, receiving the judges’ highest scores in the category. LG’s new LCD lineup focuses on technology, design, and functionality and is geared toward today’s diverse consumer audience — ranging from business professionals to die-hard gamers.

f-ENGINE
At the core of LG’s high-end LCD displays is its proprietary f-ENGINE technology — the world’s first picture-enhancing chip for a production LCD designed to adjust brightness and contrast independently of each other, resulting in the most true-to-life images available in the LCD category.

f-ENGINE is an integrated digital high-quality picture system fueled by LG Electronics’ Digital Adaptive Fine Image (DAFI) technology, that separates the relationship between brightness and color so that each can be adjusted without negatively affecting the other. For the first time in the industry, LG is making it possible to improve the color and/or brightness of an image without picture degradation — helping to enhance viewing pleasure.

FLATRON 80-Series
New to LG’s lineup of stylish and space-saving LCDs are the thinnest monitors available in the world, the FLATRON 80-series. Offered in 17- and 19-inch sizes, these units are perfect for the business professional who wants a sleek and stylish, yet functional display. Its revolutionary design enables the LCD to rotate 180 degrees and bend backwards, allowing the image to be viewed in either landscape or portrait format. With the installation of the included software, the unit has the ability to recognize and adapt the image on the screen to rotate and reformat to fit the angle of the monitor, ideal for business presentations and meetings. Units in this series can literally fold flat and are equally appropriate for desktop or wall mounting. Both models have a narrow bezel design and a smooth pivoting stand.
The first in the series is the 17-inch display, which is both PC and MAC compatible and is the world’s slimmest monitor folding flat to an incredible 66mm. The unit incorporates f-ENGINE, and offers Forte manager for convenient brightness control, as well as AutoPivot and AutoMirror features. The 17-inch model also offers dual input signals (DVI/Analog), input ports for D-sub, DVI-D, super-fast 8ms response time, native resolutions of 1280 x 1024 (SXGA), 250 cd/m2 luminance, contrast ratio of 500:1, 160-degree viewing angle and is TCO’99 low-emission compliant.

The 19-inch version offers similar attributes as the 17-inch including a 8ms response time. With a bezel measuring only 22 millimeters the 80 series can gracefully adapt to a multitude of situations, work spaces or computing needs. Each monitor also features touch-sensitive buttons and an advanced software package that allows even the most savvy users to fine tune their LCDs to their personal preferences.

FLATRON 40-Series
Leading the way in the area of design is LG’s elegant, wave-shaped FLATRON 40-series, perfect for style-conscious consumers looking for functionality — available in 17- and 19-inch models. The arched back, art-deco design is a first-of-its-kind for LG, and will help to pave the way for more decorative, yet functional exteriors.

The arched designed 17-inch model is PC and MAC compatible, packed with many great features, including f-ENGINE, dual input signals (DVI/Analog) and input ports for D-sub and DVI-D. Other features include LightView for convenient brightness control, super-fast 8ms response time for the ultimate gaming experience, native resolution of 1280 x 1024 (SXGA), 300 cd/m2 luminance, contrast ratio of 550:1, 160-degree/160-degree viewing angle and is TCO’99 low-emission compliant. Available February 2005.

The 19-inch version offers many of the same attributes as its 17-inch counterpart, with a slightly wider 170-degree/170-degree viewing angle, boasting a contrast ratio of 700:1 and a response time of 25ms. Available February 2005.

FLATRON 30-Series
The first line of LCDs that featured f-ENGINE is LG’s 30-series — two versatile units designed to fit the needs of business professionals, gamers, or just about anybody looking for an LCD with crisp, clear, true-to-life images. The 30-series monitors are available in both 17- and 19-inch display sizes.

The 17-inch monitor, the Flatron L1730S, received this year’s CES “Best of Innovations” award in the Computer Components category, and due to its lightning-fast 12ms response time, is an ideal unit for serious gamers. With its true-to-life images and vibrant display, the unit is also a great fit for graphic artists, business professionals and digital photographers.
