Introducing Audyssey Dynamic EQ at CEDIA 2007, Delivering Optimum Sound at Any Volume Level

Los Angeles, CA, August 23, 2007– Audyssey Laboratories, the leading provider of sound equalization solutions, is introducing its newest technology, Audyssey Dynamic EQ, at the 2007 CEDIA Expo. The culmination of years of research, this breakthrough technology is the first to effectively solve the long-standing problem of deteriorating sound quality as volume is decreased.

“Most users listen to audio systems at levels well below the original mix volume, thereby degrading tonal balance, bass response and surround impression,” explains Michael Solomon, Audyssey CEO, “Audyssey Dynamic EQ enables the listener to set the volume control at their preferred playback level, and yet still enjoy the same rich, enveloping sound as if played at reference volume level.”

Audyssey Dynamic EQ selects the best possible frequency response and surround volume levels moment-by-moment. The result is bass response, tonal balance and surround impression that remain constant despite changes in volume. This is the first technology that carefully combines information from incoming source levels with actual output sound levels in the room, a pre-requisite for delivering a dynamic volume solution.

Audyssey Dynamic EQ will be available in eight new Denon products shipping between CEDIA and Thanksgiving, 2007. Four of these products are the new network-centric home entertainment systems, the Denon S-32, S-52, S-102 and S-302.

The other four Dynamic EQ-enabled products are the new Denon top-of-the-line A/V receivers AVR-3808CI, AVR-4308CI, AVR-5308CI, and the AVP-A1HD separate controller. For loudness correction to be effective in AVRs, it is necessary to first perform proper frequency and time domain room equalization. To ensure proper installation and the best possible result, Dynamic EQ is enabled in these A/V receivers by a professional installer when installing Audyssey’s award-winning room correction technology, MultEQ XT. The result is unparalleled clarity, detail, balance, and imaging, at any volume.

For decades, compensating for deteriorating dynamic range as volume
decreases seemed an insurmountable obstacle. Thirty years ago, Tomlinson Holman, now Audyssey Chief Science Officer, began researching this problem and published a seminal research paper*. Not until the power of today’s DSP
processing was combined with extensive research performed by the Audyssey
team at the University of Southern California’s Immersive Audio Laboratory, was it possible to deliver the proper listening experience at all volume levels.

“The creation of Audyssey Dynamic EQ is a testimony to Tom’s lifelong commitment to solving fundamental audio problems,” said Audyssey founder and CTO, Chris Kyriakakis, “We know Dynamic EQ will take its place alongside MultEQ as a key technology that greatly improves the listening experience for all people who care about sound quality.”

About Audyssey Laboratories
Audyssey Laboratories was conceived at the prestigious Immersive Audio Laboratory at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California. For more than 10 years, Professors Tomlinson Holman and Chris Kyriakakis conducted research in audio signal processing, acoustics, and psychoacoustics. The results of their interdisciplinary research have been published in more than 100 technical journals and several books. One of the most challenging problems that they addressed was the comprehensive understanding of the negative effects of room acoustics on sound reproduction. It took five years of intense research and experimentation and more than $5M in research funds to fully understand and solve this intricate problem. No other facility in the world had the scientific expertise and the resources to fundamentally examine and solve this problem. Dr. Sunil Bharitkar, Philip Hilmes, Prof. Tomlinson Holman, and Prof. Chris Kyriakakis were all involved in conceiving and creating the technology that provided the basis for Audyssey Laboratories, Inc., founded in July 2002.
