Gateway E-475M and E-265M Notebooks Announced

Gateway’s New Notebook PCs for Professional Customers Feature Next Generation Intel Centrino Processors; New Advanced Port Replicator II features a convenient built-in battery charger that keeps extra batteries fully charged and ready for travel at a moment’s notice

Gateway today announced two new notebook PCs featuring Intel Centrino Duo processor technology. Designed from the ground up for professional customers, Gateway’s new PCs combine IT-friendly features with widescreen displays, enhanced security, leading graphics and more than 10 1/2 hours of battery life(1) in a durable design.

The high-performance Gateway E-475M is a desktop replacement featuring a brilliant 15.4-inch widescreen display. It provides world class features and maximum performance and delivers more than 10 1/2 hours of battery life. Combined with the latest wireless technology, mobile professionals can stay productive and connected an entire day when traveling.

The Gateway E-265M is a lightweight, yet powerful, notebook that offers a 14.1-inch widescreen display in a small 1.3-inch thin design(2). It is ideal for professionals who require performance and mobility, as it enables them do more on the go with the perfect balance of performance, battery life and the latest wireless technology.

Both notebooks feature the latest in high-performance graphics, and are ideally suited for professions with high-end multimedia requirements. For outstanding video playback and sharp image quality and clarity, customers can configure either system with ATI Mobility™ Radeon™ HD X2300 256MB or 512MB PCI Express Graphics or Integrated Intel GMA X3100 Graphics.

“The tremendous amount of focus and energy we’ve put into the overall design, quality and support of our notebook PCs has been resonating tremendously well with customers,” said Ray Sawall, senior product manager, product management. “In February, we earned the number one spot in Technology Business Research’s Corporate IT Buying Behavior and Customer Satisfaction Study for Notebooks, where we received our highest scores to date in parts availability, hardware reliability, value and product design. The new Gateway E-475M and E-265M are sure to strengthen our customers’ satisfaction and our overall success with our portable line.”

Next Generation Intel Centrino Processors Provide Better System Performance
In conjunction with Intel’s announcement today, both systems feature the next generation dual core processors, the Intel Core™ 2 Duo processor, the Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family and Intel Next-Gen Wireless- N and Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection.

“Gateway’s new notebook platforms are ideally suited for the new Intel Centrino Duo processor technology,” said Erik Reid, marketing director, Intel Mobile Platforms Group. “Our new Intel Centrino Duo processor technology brings improved system performance and responsiveness while simultaneously improving battery life and wireless connectivity, all of which will delight customers.”

Optional Security Technologies Provide Layers of Defense
As any mobile user knows, the loss of a notebook PC has extensive consequences, with the replacement costs of the hardware and software paling compared to the fall-out caused by the loss of information and productivity. In 2006, 81 percent of companies reported the loss of one or more laptops containing sensitive information during the past 12 months(3), and an astonishing 57 percent of corporate crimes are linked to stolen laptops(4).

Luckily, much of the negative ramifications can be minimized with the use of advanced security technologies, which are surprisingly simple to use. Adding to its existing set of security features, Gateway has added additional capabilities to the new E-465M and E-265M, including an optional UPEK Biometric Fingerprint Reader and an integrated smart card reader, providing secure log-on with fewer passwords.

In collaboration with 3M, Gateway designed the new notebooks to accept an optional custom built-to-fit 3M™ Privacy Filter that slips easily into inconspicuous tabs around the display, limiting the viewing angle. This ensures confidential information is kept safe from prying eyes and can only be seen by the person sitting squarely in front of the notebook. This feature will be especially appreciated by highly mobile professionals who can work in public areas or on long plane flights with complete privacy.

Gateway also offers Absolute Software’s Computrace Complete on both systems, and they both come standard with Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 1.2 hardware integrated onto the motherboard, safeguarding data and email communications through encryption and authentication(5).

Optimized for Mobility and Maximum Battery Life
Like many previous Gateway notebooks, these new PCs offer some of the longest lasting batteries in the industry. Working directly with Intel’s advanced power management team, Gateway engineering was able to fine tune the systems, and as a result, customers may be able to experience more than 10 1/2 hours of battery life(1) using a 12 cell battery and a modular battery.

Featuring the ideal combination of high-performance graphics and battery life, the low-power ATI Mobility™ Radeon X2300 512MB or 256MB PCI Express Graphics(6) video controller delivers longer battery life and better workstation performance.

In addition, Gateway’s new and improved Advanced Port Replicator II features a built-in battery charger that supports Gateway’s 6-cell, 8-cell and 12-cell batteries. This provides a convenient way to keep extra batteries fully charged and ready for travel at a moment’s notice.

New Durable Design Provides Maximum Protection
With a sleek new sophisticated industrial design that sets them apart from Gateway’s consumer models, the E-475M and E-265M feature a matte black hard- wearing textured plastic. The new surface is more resilient than paint and helps minimize fingerprint marks. Gateway also included UV protection on the keyboard, which keeps the keys from becoming shiny from wear and helps them retain their texture.

The new case also contributes to the system’s overall durability. A newly-designed snug-fitting lid prevents paperclips or other small objects from working their way in between the keyboard and display. This feature will be especially appreciated by Gateway’s education clients, as students often store their notebooks in backpacks filled with other loose items, such as spare change and paper clips.

Built for strength, an internal magnesium frame provides a solid, rigid case, while the hard drive is encased in its own protective enclosure, providing maximum protection from bumps and drops.

IT-Friendly Features Lower the Total Cost of Ownership
Because the notebooks share a motherboard and common components (AC adapters, batteries and modular bay devices), IT departments can reduce their employees’ down time, while also maximizing their budget and simplifying their spare parts inventory.

A shared motherboard allows for a single platform image on both notebooks(7). This provides consistency and stability, reduces qualifying time and support costs, making them ideal for mass deployment of both notebooks throughout an organization.

Protecting the customer’s investment, the notebooks will also work with Gateway’s previous generation Advanced Port Replicator.
