Furutech FI-50 Piezo Ceramic Power Connectors

Furutech Co., Ltd., manufacturer of analog and digital audio and video cable and accessories, debuts what may be the most sophisticated and thoroughly engineered AC connectors in the world, the FI-50MR.

Piezo Ceramic Series Connectors
A Furutech First!
Furutech’s Pure Transmission FI-50 Piezo Ceramic series connector bodies and housings feature several breakthrough construction techniques.

A multilayer nonmagnetic stainless steel and carbon fiber shell incorporates a special damping and insulating acetal copolymer. Furutech settled on stainless and the highly damped carbon fiber for the outer housing after extensive listening tests of various materials.

The body of the connectors combines two “active” materials: nano-sized ceramic particles and powdered carbon. (Only nano ceramic particles effectively couples with carbon powder.) Nylon and fiberglass are incorporated as well forming an extremely effective, well damped, mechanically and electrically nonresonant connector body. That’s correct; they’re electrically damped as well.

Piezoelectrics are the key!
Furutech’s breakthrough in design and materials is based on nano-sized polycrystalline ferroelectric ceramic particles that exhibit electro-generative properties; mechanical pressure actually creates an electrical charge. The effect bridges electrical and mechanical movement or resonance.

The incorporated carbon powder exhibits thermal-conductive characteristics. It interacts with the mechanically-to-electrically charged ferro-ceramic particles converting their energy into heat that’s conducted away and released from the surface of the connector body. No element of signal transfer is too small in the search for Pure Transmission perfection.

These carefully chosen and tested interactive materials mechanically and electrically damp the connector as they “interconvert” thermal, mechanical, and electrical energy for the finest sound imaginable.

Plug a superbly engineered FI-50-equipped power cord into one of Furutech’s resonance-damped carbon fiber and stainless steel outlets filled with top-quality Furutech receptacles and you’ve gone a long way towards better sound. Add a Power 6, e-TP609 power distributors or e-TP80 filtered AC distributor to connect all your components for a powerful, emotive and satisfying musical experience.

Floating Magnetic Field Effects
The Furutech Earth/Ground Jumper System
How far will Furutech’s engineers go in their attempts to reach Pure Transmission reference quality? Their concentrated examination of each and every element of signal transfer resulted in another breakthrough technology, the Furutech Earth/Ground Jumper System. This technique eliminates EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) induced in metal parts like screws that are close to the larger field around the connector housing.

Current flowing through the power connector creates a magnetic field, just as an insulated conductor creates both electromagnetic and electrostatic fields. Furutech engineers found this magnetic field induces current flow (and a small magnetic field) in the screws holding the connector together! These magnetic fields interfere with the larger magnetic field around the conductor and connector.

Furutech’s total attention to detail and elegant engineering neatly solves the problem. The Earth/Ground Jumper System connects the securing screws to a ground terminal within the plug completely eliminating the field disturbances they cause. The stray fields are grounded by a series of interlocking parts within the connector that attach to the ground conductor. The Jumper System is available in Furutech NEMA Power and IEC Connectors. The Earth/Ground Jumper System Carries US Patent No. 6,669,491.

The sweeping way in which Furutech go about thoroughly refining their Pure Transmission technique is a tour de force of detail work. The meticulously machined patented wire clamps provide extremely secure connections as well as improving contact area by almost 20%!

Each and every element of signal transfer is minutely examined for improvement. Furutech’s patent-pending metal clamp (left) securely anchors the cable enhancing long-term stability as well as damping resonance. Solid non-resonating connections go a long way towards improved sound.
