ViewEra V191D

The ViewEra V191D's strongest feature is its low price. Running $382 at time of testing, the V191D costs less than most 19-inch LCDs. In fact, it costs less than many 17-inch LCDs. Unfortunately, the V191D--the first 19-inch monitor we've tested from ViewEra--delivers weak image quality.

We discovered many of the same image-quality problems in the V191D that we found in ViewEra's 17-inch V172D. As with the V172D, graphics appeared overexposed. The V191D obscured details in both the dark and the light areas of our group photo screen; it also had trouble depicting subtle gradations in our grayscale and color-scale tests. As a result of these problems, the V191D earned a Fair rating for graphics.

Documentation arrives in a slender printed booklet; for more extensive documents, visit ViewEra's Web site.

An attractive price doesn't make up for the ViewEra V191D's poor image quality.
