The Sony SDM-S94 took our jury to extremes: It outscored all other recent monitors on text, but turned in one of the lowest graphics scores we've seen recently. It performed adequately on our image of a Web page, but received low scores on its reproductions of our test photos. Some of the small buttons have gray labels that show up well against the black cabinet, but labels on others consist of unpainted, indented text that's difficult to read. It does have user-customizable on-screen settings--very handy. Physical adjustments would be nice, though: The SDM-S94 can only be tilted.
No-frills monitor provides superb text display--but little else.
